Arshi OS: Will You Be My Valentine?

It has been exactly once year since they had got married. And till now all the moments they have spent together are worth to remember! They were just perfect for each other. Arnav was sitting on the recliner with an album open. He was looking through the photos and suddenly he halted when he saw one particular photo. This photo had captured the best moment of their life ... The moment that had changed their life.

FLASHBACK BEGINS

NK, Aakash, Khushi, Lavanya and Payal were best friends studying Interior Architecture in the same college. It was their final year at college and the college had arranged a Valentine’s Day party for the final years.

Aakash, Khushi, Lavanya and Payal were sitting in the cafeteria and discussing about the party when NK came towards them.

NK: Guys did you know that the entry to the Valentine’s Day party is a couple entry?

Khushi: WHAT??? Please tell me you are joking!

NK: No Khush I am serious! I just met Rohan on my way here and he told me. And he can’t be wrong since he is in the organising committee. 

Lavanya: Oh god that means Khushi can’t go to the party!

Khushi: I can’t believe that this is happening to me! I was so excited about going to the party ever since it was announced. I even went bought a dress!

Payal: Don’t worry Khushi we will find a way out!

Lavanya: Ya we have one whole day left with us … we can find a date for you!

NK: Ya let the hunt for a thareek begin!

Aakash: Thareek?

NK: Ya thareek as in date!

Aakash: Oh!

Lavanya: Well let’s go then … I am sure there will be a guy out there who is fit to be our Khushi’s date!

Later that evening Khushi returned home all disappointed. All her hopes of going to the party crashed down since she had not find a single guy with whom she could go. Most of the guys were already taken and the rest were either not going or they were all geek type. Khushi lay on the bed dejected and dozed off to sleep eventually. She had not even gone for dinner that night. She only woke up next day morning when she heard someone shouting along with loud bangs on the door.

“GUPTA YOU BETTER OPEN THE DOOR NOW … OR ELSE I AM GOING TO KICK OPEN IT”

Khushi (self-thought): Hey Devi Maiya what is happening!

She quickly got out of the bed before the person breaks the door. She ran to the door and opened it in a swift. She saw someone falling down with a loud thud on the floor the next moment after she opened the door.

“OUCH”

Khushi: OMG Arnav! Are you ok?

She helped him stand up.

Arnav: What the h*ll GUPTA? I almost broke my nose!

Khushi: Who told you to kick open the door RAIZADA!

Arnav: What I am supposed to do if you don’t open the door! I have been knocking it like forever. And to top it up you haven’t been answering any of my calls since last night and Aunty told me that you have not left this room after coming back from college yesterday. I was worried!

Khushi: Awwww so sweet!

Saying that she pulled his cheeks.

Arnav: What the! Khushi I am not a kid.

Khushi: Oh ya! You are not a kid ….. But Arnav if you are not one then why does everyone call you Chotte?

And she started giggling.

Arnav: Khushi I warning you! Don’t start on this topic again! It won’t do you any good!

Khushi: Ok Laad Governor! Now tell me what you are doing here so early in the morning?

Arnav: You answer me first! Why dint you pick up my calls yesterday?

Khushi: Don’t ask! Had a bad day!

Saying that she went and sat on the bed and Arnav followed her.

Arnav: What happened Khushi? Won’t you tell me?

Khushi: I can’t go to the Valentine’s Day party tonight!

Arnav: What??? You made me take a leave from work just to take you shopping for a dress for that party! And now you are saying you can’t go! Unbelievable!

Khushi: Stop getting so agitated Raizada! It’s not like I don’t want to go … It’s just that I can’t!

Arnav: And may I know why?

Khushi: They made a stupid rule saying that only couples can enter!

Arnav: What is so stupid about it? It’s a Valentine’s Day party … Its quite obvious that people attend such parties with their partner!

Khushi: What about people who don’t have a partner … Like me? It’s unfair!

Arnav: Oh ho Khushi! All you have to do is ask one of your friends to go with you!

Khushi: The only male friends I have at college are Aakash and NK! And obviously Aakash is taking Payal and NK is taking Lavanya! And before you ask … The whole of yesterday we spend time looking for guys at college that I could go with but did not find any! The only male friend I have left now is you!

After a small pause she jumped up from the bed and knelt in front of Arnav. Taking his right hand in hers –

Khushi: Arnav Will You Be My Valentine?

Arnav: What the!

He stood up with a jerk.

Khushi: Don’t what the me Raizada! It’s not the time for that …. Please just answer my question!

Arnav: Khushi you know that I don’t like parties!

Khushi: Arnav please! I promise you won’t get bored there!

Arnav: But I don’t know anyone there!

Khushi: Offcourse you do! You know me, Payal and Lavanya. Your amazing cousins Aakash and NK are going to be there as well. And you also know few of the teachers!

Arnav: Exactly! What will the teachers think when they see me with you … I mean I was your senior at the college!

Khushi: So? Stop giving me silly reasons Arnav! You know na how excited I was about going to this party! Arnav you are my only hope now!

Arnav: But…

Khushi: Please Arnav …. PLEASE!!!

Arnav stood there for a while thinking. He was confused about what to do. He was feeling very hesitant to go to the party but at the same time he could not deny Khushi. Not only because she was his best friend since childhood but also because deep inside he felt really happy when Khushi asked him to be her date coz he loved her. She is the most important person in his life. Offcourse his family and especially his Di are also important to him but Khushi, she is special in fact she is his life. He doesn’t know when he fell in love with her but the only thing he knows is that he can never imagine his life without her. The only problem is that he never had the courage to tell her that. He is too afraid to loose her … He has a fear that if she did not reciprocate the same feelings for him then he would loose her. So he kept numb about it.

He was broken from his trance by Khushi’s voice.

Khushi (pouting): Arnav my knees are hurting! I can’t sit like this forever! Please say yes!

Arnav: Ok fine … I will be your Valentine!

Khushi stood up in split second and hugged Arnav tightly.

Khushi: I Love You …. You are the Best!

Arnav was dazed by Khushi’s words. He had been yearning to hear those words from her with its true meaning but he knew that she only meant them as a friend. He wound his arms around her and hugged her back tightly.

After a while they broke their embrace.

Arnav: So what time does your party start?

Khushi: It starts at 7.00pm!

Arnav: Ok I will be here by 6.00 to pick you up!

Khushi: Cool! And Arnav Thanks for coming with me!

Arnav: Anything for you Gupta! Now go freshen up, I will drop you at college on my way to office.

Khushi: Ok!

Khushi went to freshen up while Arnav went downstairs and waited for her to come. Once she came down they had breakfast with Khushi’s parents and then left.

Khushi saw Aakash, NK, Lavanya and Payal already sitting in the class and discussing something seriously. She went towards them and sat next to Lavanya.

Khushi: Good Morning Guys!

Lavanya: Good morning!

Khushi: So what are you guys talking about so seriously?

NK: Khush we decided not to go to the Valentine’s Day party tonight!

Khushi: What? Why?

Aakash: Well you are not able to go so we decided not to go too.

Khushi: That is really sweet of you but you guys don’t have to do anything like that!

Payal: No Khush we don’t want to go to a party where you are not going to be there!

Khushi: Who said I am not going to be there? As far as I know I am going to the party tonight!

Lavanya: What? You are going?

Khushi: Yes I am going!

Payal: Wow that is great!

Lavanya: Wait … Does that meant you found a date?

Khushi: Yes that is what it exactly means!

Aakash: Who is it?

NK: Ya tell us who it is? Do we know him!

Khushi: Well … It’s a surprise!

Lavanya: Oh come on Khush just tell us! You know I hate surprises!

Khushi: Relax guys … You will know about it tonight!

They all tried persuading into telling them about it until their professor came to the class. After the class had finished she had texted Arnav to let him know that she has not told anyone in the group about him coming with her to the party and asked to keep it that way so that they all could be surprised.

Door Bell rang exactly at 6.00pm that day at Gupta House. Garima welcomed Arnav in and said that Khushi will join him soon.  After a while he looked towards the stairs and what he saw there left him mesmerised. Khushi was coming down the stairs in a long red dress. She looked like an angel that came down from heaven … just for him.

Khushi came and snapped her fingers in front of him.

Khushi: How do I look?

And she twirled around so that he could get a full view.

Arnav: You look stunning … absolutely beautiful Khushi!

Hearing Arnav Khushi started blushing and before her heart beats could go out of control she replied back.

Khushi: Thanks Arnav! You look good yourself too!

When Arnav saw Khushi rising blush he couldn’t stop himself from smirking.

Arnav: Thanks! Well let’s go!

He took hold of her hand and they both left for the party after bidding goodbye to Garima.

The moment they entered the party hall all pair of eyes in the room were on them.  They looked perfect together. Aakash, NK, Lavanya and Payal were not only surprised but shocked to see Arnav with Khushi. All the four walked towards the couple.

Aakash: Bhai You!

NK: Nanav mera bhai what are you doing here?

Khushi: Guys meet my date the one and only Mr Arnav Sigh Raizada!

Payal: Khushi … Arnavji is your date?

Khushi: Ya!

Lavanya: Unbelievable!

Aakash: Bhai I thought you hated parties!

Arnav: Well Khushi wanted to come to this party and when she asked me to be her date I did not want to upset her further by denying so I agreed!

Aakash: I see!

NK: Well Khushi nice surprise!

Listening to NK Khushi just giggled.

Khushi: Well why are we standing at the entrance lets go inside and enjoy!

They all went inside and started mingling with everyone. After a while the guys decided to get drinks for the six of them. They ordered the drinks and were waiting for them.

Aakash (with a mischievous glint in his eyes): So bhai you could not deny Khushi haan?

Arnav: Aakash!

Aakash: Oh come on Bhai!

NK: Nannav it Valentine’s day … No other day can be as better as this to tell her your feelings!

Arnav: I have no idea what you guys are talking about!

NK: Oh really!

Aakash: Stop denying us the fact that you love her Bhai! We have seen it in your eyes!

Arnav was shocked when he heard Aakash say that.

NK: Don’t tell us but at least tell her! What if she also likes you but is hesitating from telling you the truth like you are!

Aakash: Haan Bhai … that is possible!

Arnav: Guys it’s not that easy as it seems!

Aakash: But it not as difficult as you state it!

NK: All we are telling you to do is give it a go!

Aakash: Bhai do you remember what Di once told us? “We should live every moment of our life coz life is too short. And that we should never let go of the person we love and who is very close to us no matter what the situation is. Whenever we feel something in our heart no matter what it is we should say it aloud immediately and not waste time thinking about it even if it is silly we should just say it aloud.  And that we should always listen to our heart.”

Arnav: I know Aakash! It’s not like I am never planning to tell her … I am just waiting for the right time!

NK (eagerly): Is today the right time Nanav?

Arnav: Frankly speaking NK … I don’t know! Today has been quite a surprising day for me … All the events since morning are so unexpected. So I am just gona go with flow. Anyways I think we should go now … the girls would be waiting for us!

They joined the girls and kept chatting for a while. In between both NK and Aakash disappeared for a while saying that they had to meet a friend. When they came back they asked their respective partners for dance. Both the couples left leaving behind Arnav and Khushi.  After a while the DJ announced all the couples to come on the dance floor. Arnav looked towards Khushi and then towards the dance floor. He saw NK signalling him to bring Khushi to the dance floor and Aakash giving him thumbs up sign. Then and there he understood that this was why NK’s and Aakash’s were missing for a while since they were planning to give Khushi and him some time to spend alone with each other. He looked back at Khushi and smiled at her to which he got back one of her dazzling smiles that he loved and adored.  He forwarded his hand towards her –

Arnav: Dance?

And he waited for her hand to join his. Khushi was surprised with Arnav request … She could not believe that Arnav had asked her for a dance. When she asked Arnav to be her Valentine for the party she was not sure what Arnav’s reply would be. She knew he hated parties but she also knew he could never deny her anything. He was always a true friend who stood by her during good and times. But she never wanted him to go beyond his comfort zone and that is why when he had agreed to come with her for the party she had decided that she would not force or expect him to do anything else especially dance at the party. So it was quite natural for her to be surprised since the man who did not like to dance was asking her for a dance. But she was happy that he did ask her. She wanted to dance ever since they had arrived at the party and her eagerness to dance increased when Aakash, Payal, NK and Lavanya had gone. She wanted to go as well but she did not want to leave Arnav alone so she stayed back. So with a smile she forwarded her hand to join with his. And both of them slowly walked towards the dance floor hand in hand.

He began swaying her slowly in rhythm as the music started.

He swung her around and she landed back on his chest. Khushi was surprised with that move of Arnav’s but she felt happy and continued moving with him in perfect coordination.

There was something magical about the way they both danced together. They looked perfect for each other. No one looking at them both right now could have ever guessed that they both were dancing together for the first time.

They both were enjoying the dance equally lost in their own world. They did not feel the slightest discomfort of being so close to each other in front of so many people. They kept sawing to the music while looking at each other with a smile. Khushi felt like Arnav was conveying something to her through his eyes but she was not sure what it meant. Meanwhile Arnav was having the best moment of his life. He was enjoying every moment of the dance. Having Khushi … his first and last love in his embrace and dancing to his favourite song made him feel like he like he was complete.

They kept swaying like that lost in each other not realising the music had ended. The sudden round of applause from the audience brought them back to reality. They moved away from each other but still their hands were joined together. They both were embarrassed with the sudden proximity especially Khushi. She was very surprised by Arnav’s sudden change of behaviour but she threw that thought out of her mind and looked at Arnav and gave him her signature smile.  They moved out of the dance floor still hand in hand.

The party ended soon. Arnav and Khushi were on their way back to Gupta house. After the dance they both did not talk to each other much other than a few monosyllables. They both were nervous … Khushi was nervous thinking about their sudden closeness while Arnav was nervous thinking about Khushi’s reaction to their sudden closeness during their dance. But the silence and their odd behaviour was killing them too. Soon they reached Gupta house and they stepped out of the car. Khushi decided to break the ice –

Khushi: Thanks for coming Raizada! If you wouldn’t have agreed then I would have missed out on so much. I really had so much fun!

Arnav: So did I Gupta! Thanks for asking me!

Khushi: I should go … I will see you later!

Arnav: Hmmm!

Khushi started walking towards the house when she heard Arnav’s voice.

Arnav: Khushi Wait!

She turned behind and saw Arnav looking at her. While she started walking back towards him, he went to the back side of his car and opened up the boot. He took out a beautiful basket of flowers with a teddy bear and boxes of chocolate in it.

He gave it to Khushi and kissed her cheeks gently.

Arnav: Happy Valentine’s Day Khushi!

Her cheeks had graced with same colour of her dress. Arnav couldn’t stop himself from smirking when he saw her blushing.

Khushi: Arnav what is this?

Arnav: Gupta I thought it is quite obvious …. But if I have to spell it out to you then it’s A – Valentine’s – Day – Gift – For – You!

Khushi: But why?

Arnav: Khushi dint you like it?

Khushi: No … I mean Yes! I love it … its beautiful! But you didn’t have to buy me a gift!

Arnav: I know … But it’s Valentine’s Day and technically you are my Valentine today! So I wanted to do something special.

Khushi: Thanks Arnav … It is really special! But I feel bad now … I did not do anything for you!

Arnav: You don’t have to Khushi! If there is anything special you could do for me then it is for you to be in my life … which you already are.

Khushi: Awww …. That is so sweet!

And Khushi was about to pull his cheek but Arnav stopped her.

Arnav: Don’t you dare Gupta!

Khushi: I take back what I said few seconds ago … You are not sweet you are a khadoos Laad Governor!

Arnav just smirked back to what Khushi said.

Khushi: Well I should really go now … It’s getting late!

Arnav: Hmmm … Goodnight Gupta!

Khushi: Goodnight Raizada!

Khushi quickly pecked on Arnav’s cheek and ran towards her house leaving behind a dazed Arnav. By the time Arnav was out of his trance, Khushi was far from seen and the only words that came out of his mouth were –

“Pagal!”

Khushi came out from the bathroom after freshening up and changing into her night clothes. She moved towards the side table where she had kept the basket. She took out the teddy bear from it and cuddled it while sitting on the bed. Closing her eyes she started thinking about the day’s events …  She asking Arnav to be her date – Him accepting it – Him asking her for a dance – Their proximity during the dance – Him giving her Valentine’s Day gift – Him kissing her on his cheeks – Him wishing her Happy Valentine’s Day – And lastly she kissing him on his cheeks. She slowly opened her eyes with a small smile playing on her lips and touched the red roses in bouquet. She suddenly remembered Arnav’s words –

“If there is anything special you could do for me then it is for you to be in my life … which you already are.”

Khushi (self – thought): Why do I feel that he wanted to tell me more than that? And during the dance also I felt like he wanted to tell me! And the kiss … it felt so special!

She touched her cheeks where Arnav had kissed her and she could feel her blush rising.

Khushi (self – thought): Khushi stop behaving like a teenager! It’s not like he has never kissed you on your cheeks … It was just a normal kiss. So stop going over the board! But what if it is not … What if he is ….

But unfortunately she was brought out of her trance by some noise. She looked around and could not figure out where the noise was coming from. She decided to ignore the noise and go to sleep. It was a long day. She was about to lie down on the bed but again she heard the noise. She turned towards the window in her room … She felt like someone was throwing stones on it. She was scared and confused but she decided to go ahead and check who it is. She slowly walked towards the window and opened it. What she saw there left her shocked … and she stood there with her mouth wide open.

Arnav was climbing up the ladder and when he finally reached the top he saw Khushi standing there with her mouth open.

Arnav: Khushi!

But unfortunately he did not get any response back!

Arnav: Khushi close your mouth and move … I need to get in!

But still no response. She was standing there like a statue. Arnav leaned forward towards her left ear and screamed “GUPTA”

Khushi: Tu...Tum?

Arnav: Haan Mm…Mein! Now if you don’t mind MOVE! You see this ladder is not stable so if I don’t get inside soon I will fall down and break my bones! So unless you want that to happen Gupta … Please Move!

Khushi’s mouth formed an “O” when she heard that. But she moved away so that Arnav could enter.

Khushi: Raizada If you were so worried for your bones why did you climb the ladder? 

Arnav: Coz you were not opening the window! Anyways why did you take so long to open it?

Khushi: Coz I wasn’t expecting it to be you … I thought it would be some burglar!

Arnav: Why would a burglar throw stones on your window?

Khushi: I don’t know! But what are you A Roadside Romeo to throw stones at a window?

Arnav (huskily): I won’t mind to be that!

Khushi: Huh? Arnav are you alright … You are behaving very odd today! Do you want to go to the Doctor?

Arnav: Gupta shut up! I came here to talk to you about something important!

Arnav took Khushi’s right hand in his and kneelt down.

Khushi: Arnav what are you doing?

Arnav: Shhhh … Khushi just hear me out for a while … Will you?

Khushi (confused): Hmmm….

Arnav: Khushi what I am about to say might surprise you a lot. But I think it’s high time I tell you this and that is why I am here. I don’t know how, when or where it happened … but it did and I am glad it did. KHUSHI I LOVE YOU! Khushi you have accepted me for who I am and the way I am. You are the one brought brightness into my life. You are the one who taught me to find happiness in small things. You are the one who had stayed by my side during good and bad moments. I am impatient, stubborn and at times it’s hard to control my anger … I know I am a complete Laad Governor! But Khushi you are the only one who can control this Laad Governor. Khushi I know I am not the perfect prince charming of your dreams … But I promise you I will keep you happy forever … I will not let any type unhappiness come near you. I Love You Khushi … You are reason why I breathe, you are the reason why my heart beats … I can’t imagine a life without you. I want you to be my side for the rest of my life! … KHUSHI WILL YOU BE MY VALENTINE FOREVER?

Khushi was stunned and speechless. She was breathing heavily and she could hear heart going ‘Dhak Dhak’. She could not believe that Arnav Singh Raizada was kneeling in front of her and proposing her. Deep inside she knew she had feelings for Arnav but she always chose to ignore it coz she never wanted to lose him. Arnav was too precious for her … Even she could never imagine a life without him. So she never brought out her feelings fearing his rejection. But now seeing Arnav in front of her kneeling down waiting for her acceptance brought tears in her eyes … no they were not tears of unhappiness, they were tears of unbound joy and happiness.  She just nodded her head as in saying a ‘Yes’ since she was not able to say anything and the moment Arnav stood up she engulfed him in a tight hug.

Arnav: I Love You!

Khushi: I Love You too!

Arnav withdrew from the hug slightly and looked lovingly at Khushi. He had been longing to hear these words form her and now she did he felt it magical. He realised how much power these three words had in his life. They both shared an eye lock trying to tell how much precious this new relationship means to them. Arnav looked down at Khushi’s soft luscious lips and cupped her face moving closer. Khushi knew what was coming and closed her eyes slowly. Arnav brushed his lips against hers to see if she was showed any sign of withdrawal but since he did not see any he kissed her gently which turned out to be passionate one in a while. Initially she was a bit hesitant but then she kissed him back with equal passion. They only broke apart when they were in need of air. They took a deep breathe while resting their foreheads together and smiling at each other. Khushi felt her cheeks warming up and she quickly embraced Arnav and hid her head in Arnav’s chest. Arnav also hugged her back tightly while whispering to Khushi’s ears –

Arnav: I did not know Khushi Kumari Gupta knew to be shy as well.

In return he just got a smack on his chest which he just laughed.

Arnav: I have something for you!

Khushi gradually moved back a little and looked up at Arnav’s face and asked him what it is through her eyes.

Arnav: Close your eyes!

Khushi: But why?

Arnav: Do you trust me?

Khushi: More than I trust myself!

Arnav (while smiling): Then close your eyes!

She did it as per his wish. He moved back completely and took Khushi’s hand in his and started walking slowly towards the mirror in Khushi’s room. When they reached there he made her face the mirror while he stood right behind her. He took a chain out of his pants pocket carefully and placed it around her neck.

Arnav: Now you can open your eyes!

Khushi opened her eyes slowly and looked at his and her reflection. Arnav was smiling at her and suddenly she saw something else … Something that was not there before. It was a silver chain around her neck but that was not the eye catching element of the surprise. The actual thing that caught her eyes was the pendant that was hanging on the chain … It was a heart shaped pendant with a ruby stone which was also carved in the shape of a heart.

Arnav: Do you like it?

Khushi looked at Arnav through the mirror.

Khushi: I love it! It’s beautiful Arnav!

Arnav: Not as beautiful as you are!

Khushi turned back and hugged Arnav tightly and even he hugged her back bringing her more closer to him.

Arnav: I Love You Gupta!

Khushi: I Love You Too Raizada!

And they remained in each other’s embrace enjoying another’s presence.

Arnav came out of his thoughts when he heard the doors opening. And when he looked towards it he saw his angel walking in wearing a red saree.

Khushi: Arnav the guests are about to start coming! What are you still doing in the room?

Arnav kept the album on the table beside him and walked towards Khushi while she kept staring at the album with a confused look.

Khushi: Isn’t that our wedding album?

Arnav: Yes it is!

Arnav pulled Khushi into his arms and embraced her. Even Khushi brought her arms around him thus completing the embrace.

Khushi: I can’t believe it’s been one year since our wedding day!

Arnav: Hmmm … The day that changed our lives … The day you became mine forever.

Khushi: And also exactly two years since you proposed me! Do you remember that day?
